The inspiration is from a Keith Green lyric. It is a critique of the state of the church. I am a part of that organization and therefore the blame rests on my shoulders as well.

Lyrics
The world is sleeping in the dark, that the church can’t fight, cause it’s asleep in the light, how can you be so dead, when you’ve been so well fed. Wake up, church, cuz the hour is late, just take a look around this world’s got so much pain, wake up church, time to rise and shine, time to give what you’ve been given time to show’em the light, you fight with your brothers about whose going to heaven, while you got cousins down the street who haven’t met him, you gotta be kiddin’, pick up your cross, pick up your cross, the words are still there but the meaning was lost, the gospel, you know the one that means good news, you know the one you cover cuz your afraid what they’ll do, you know the one that you give up your Sunday morning for, but the rest of the weak you seem so spiritually poor, oh Lord, we’ve seen you hungry and naked, but we look at you and say that he’s a drug addict who fakes it, oh Lord we’ve seen you crying for help, but we seem content behind church doors just hording our wealth, oh Lord, we’ve seen you sick and in jail, but we pay our insurance only protecting our health, we had a first love, who we no longer think of, Lord what has your bride become, what have we become. The world is sleeping in the dark, that the church can’t fight, cause it’s asleep in the light, how can you be so dead, when you’ve been so well fed. Lukewarm, I’ma spit you out my mouth right out, if you’d actually look around you might see its night out, he’s coming back soon, but you don’t know the day nor the hour, and your lights not shining, you’ve forgotten bout his power, and your fights keep fighting, you’ve forgotten bout forgiveness, and the world lives in ignorance you’ve forgotten to witness. I see kids on the streets that are lacking their parents, and the sexual sin in our culture ‘s blatantly apparent, money clothes, drugs, hoes, its a sin overdose, but yet the people within the church they still doze, like the prostitute who needs God you should be working the block, and it should be us Christians that have our bodies lined in chalk, is that to strong for you, is Christ’s cross wrong for you, the call to follow doesn’t belong to you, i’m coming on heavy, cuz hell’s got weight, and theirs a few more souls I’m hopin’ to save, this can’t wait The world is sleeping in the dark, that the church can’t fight, cause it’s asleep in the light, how can you be so dead, when you’ve been so well fed. There’s one thing you lack, sell all follow the teacher, we need people to live among the world and not preachers, not of the world but to be answers for the seekers, to live a life with all the marks of Christian faith’s features, like peace, joy, tell me where is the love, it shouldn’t have left when Christ was raised up above, we’ve been commissioned, please Christian listen, time to accept the mission, cause the mission is possible, John said that every tribe heaven would have’em all, if Christ walked the earth he might be mad at ya’ll, stand, walk, proceed with faith, proclaim the grace the gift that God gave.
